If you have an e-Shram card, you may have got an SMS like this: “₹3000 पेंशन का मौका! PM-SYM में पंजीकरण…” Many workers read it and think ₹3,000 will now come to their bank account every month. YouTube videos with titles like “e-Shram card holders ko ₹3,000 milenge” make the confusion worse.
So let’s clear it up. The ₹3,000 is real, but it is not a free monthly payment for e-Shram card holders. It is a pension after age 60, and you get it only if you join a separate scheme and pay a small amount every month until then. Below we explain how it works, who can join, how much you pay, and how to avoid fake messages.

Is the e-Shram Card ₹3,000 Scheme Real? The Short Answer
Yes and no.
- Real: The Government of India runs PM Shram Yogi Maan-dhan (PM-SYM). Under it, an unorganised worker gets an assured pension of ₹3,000 every month after turning 60. e-Shram card holders are being told about it by SMS.
- Not real: There is no scheme that sends ₹3,000 (or ₹1,000) every month to people just because they have an e-Shram card. The e-Shram card itself does not pay any monthly money.
In one line: The e-Shram card is your identity as an unorganised worker. The ₹3,000 pension is a separate scheme you have to join and pay into.
e-Shram Card vs PM-SYM: What Is the Difference?
| Point | e-Shram Card | PM-SYM (₹3,000 pension) |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | National database / ID card for unorganised workers | Voluntary pension scheme |
| Age to join | 16 to 59 years | 18 to 40 years |
| Cost | Free | ₹55 to ₹200 per month, until age 60 |
| Money you get | No regular payment from the card itself | ₹3,000 per month after age 60 |
| Portal | eshram.gov.in | maandhan.in |
Today, more than 31.89 crore workers are registered on e-Shram (August 2026 figure). Only those who also join PM-SYM will get the ₹3,000 pension later.
Who Can Join the ₹3,000 Pension Scheme?
| Rule | Details |
|---|---|
| Work | Unorganised sector: street vendors, rickshaw pullers, construction and daily wage workers, domestic workers, farm labourers, beedi workers, weavers and similar |
| Age at joining | 18 to 40 years |
| Income | ₹15,000 a month or less |
| Must NOT be | A member of EPF, ESIC or NPS |
| Must NOT be | An income tax payer |
| Must NOT be | Getting benefits from another government pension scheme |
| Must have | Aadhaar card and a savings bank or Jan Dhan account |
How Much Do You Have to Pay?
The younger you join, the less you pay. Whatever you pay, the government adds the same amount to your pension account.
| Age when you join | You pay per month | Government adds per month |
|---|---|---|
| 18 | ₹55 | ₹55 |
| 20 | ₹65 | ₹65 |
| 25 | ₹80 | ₹80 |
| 30 | ₹105 | ₹105 |
| 35 | ₹150 | ₹150 |
| 40 | ₹200 | ₹200 |
Total You Pay Till 60 vs What You Get
We worked this out from the official chart. It helps you see the real cost.
| Join at age | Months you pay (till 60) | Your total payment | Pension after 60 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 18 | 504 | ₹27,720 | ₹3,000 a month (₹36,000 a year) |
| 25 | 420 | ₹33,600 | ₹3,000 a month |
| 30 | 360 | ₹37,800 | ₹3,000 a month |
| 35 | 300 | ₹45,000 | ₹3,000 a month |
| 40 | 240 | ₹48,000 | ₹3,000 a month |
Something to think about: The pension is a fixed ₹3,000. It does not increase with prices. For someone joining at 25, ₹3,000 thirty-five years from now will buy much less than it does today. It is still a useful safety net for a worker with no other pension, but it should not be your only savings.

What Does the e-Shram Card Actually Give You?
The e-Shram card is still worth having. Here is what it really does:
- A 12-digit UAN, so the government knows you as an unorganised worker
- Easy access to schemes like PM-SYM (pension) and PM Suraksha Bima Yojana (₹2 lakh accident cover for a small yearly premium)
- The e-Shram One-Stop Solution, which links about 15 welfare schemes in one place
- Priority for future schemes and help during emergencies
- Some states have also used e-Shram data to send their own help to workers. That depends on your state, not on the card itself.
Beware: Fake “₹3,000 Aa Gaye” Messages
- Messages saying “₹1,000 / ₹3,000 has come to your e-Shram account, click to claim” are fake.
- No government official will ask for your OTP, ATM PIN or a “processing fee” to release e-Shram money.
- The SMS about PM-SYM is only an invitation to join the pension scheme. It does not mean money is waiting for you.
- Use only eshram.gov.in, maandhan.in or a CSC. If you lose money to fraud, call 1930 or report on cybercrime.gov.in.
